Scottie Scheffler withdraws from Houston Open amid preparations for The Masters

Scottie Scheffler withdrew from the Houston Open on Tuesday with his wife Meredith due to give birth to their second child.

The world No 1 has been runner-up at the Houston Open three times, including the last two years when he made it his final stop before going to the Masters.

He will be replaced in the field by Matt Kuchar at Memorial Park.

Scheffler's wife gave birth to a son they named Bennett on May 8, 2024, one week before the PGA Championship.

Scheffler, who won the PGA Championship and The Open last year, began 2026 with a victory in The American Express. His streak of 18 consecutive finishes in the top 10 - which started at the Houston Open last year - ended at the Genesis Invitational with a tie for 12th.

His last tournament was a tie for 22nd in The Players Championship.

Scheffler is gearing up to compete for a third Green Jacket in The Masters at Augusta National two weeks from now, with Rory McIlroy returning as defending champion.

McIlroy famously ended his long wait for Masters glory last year when he held off Justin Rose in a dramatic playoff to complete the career Grand Slam.

Watch The Masters live on Your Site from April 9-12. The next PGA Tour event is the Texas Children's Houston Open, live on Sports Golf from 12.30pm on Thursday.
